Crafty Little Monster. I am a toy collector and I have been going to Comic-con since I was 16. I love that I am able to share my love for these subjects with my family, friends, and of course with like minded women like yourself.
The Nerdy Girlie: What is your 1st nerd memory?
Vanessa: I have a brother who is six years older than me and he LOVES video games. He had every game system and had boxes full of games. When I was a little kid, my sister and I would sit with him in his room and watch him play video games. He even let us play some of the easier ones with him sometimes. I will never forget the amazement I would get of watching my brother beat these terrifying looking bosses. My parents then bought me my first Nintendo NES and I loved it to pieces. Ever sense I have grown to love Nintendo and its characters.
TNG: How and why did you start blogging?
Vanessa: I’ve always loved to do some sort of craft. I have been drawing since I was a kid and I’ve always been fond of being able to do little projects for school. I always hear people saying that “I could never do that” or “I will never be able to draw” and I will not stand for that. I started the blog because I want to be able to show people that crafts are for everyone. It doesn’t matter your skill level. I don’t even own a sewing machine. And, of course, I deeply admire the skill and craft of others, so I also started my blog to be able to showcase others amazing and brave work.
TNG: YOUR favorite blog?
TNG: What is your favorite thing/things to nerd out about?
Vanessa: My favorite is Star Wars, always and forever. But I also love X-men, Indiana Jones, Doctor Who, Watchmen, Transformers, MOTU, The Munsters, Universal Monsters, and Disney.
TNG: Any tips for San Diego Comic Con?
Vanessa: Make sure you try to get a list of everything you want to see and buy beforehand. Make sure you do the proper research into those items like location and times because a line (and a HUGE line) may be in store for what you want to see. If you are a toy collector like me, make sure you SAVE, SAVE, SAVE and have cash. Properly fuel up on food and drinks that will keep you full and energized (like protein). And most important: HAVE FUN! No moaning and groaning at this convention. Even more important: BE NICE! Plenty of people to make friends with here.
TNG: Girlie things you love?
Vanessa: A beautiful dress or blouse is my favorite. A great shade of red lipstick is fantastic. And, of course, having a GREAT purse/handbag is a great feeling.
